K&N E-9233 Replacement Air Filter

K&N E-9233 Replacement Air Filter

Product Description

These reusable K&N Filtercharger air filters outflow any other filter--up to 900 cfm--for power gains of up to 15 HP. They use a surgical cotton fabric soaked in oil as their tack barrier. Easy to install, seems to work5
I purchased this because the manufacturer claims that you won't have to clean it for 50,000-100,000 miles, as opposed to the paper air filters which I have to change every 10k. The manufacturer actually does not claim that you will have better gas mileage or more power, but I found that it has boosted the HP in my 2001 Nissan Frontier 4cyl a bit - I always had trouble accelerating up a particularly daunting hill after a stop sign, but now I have no trouble. My mpg did not seemingly change. One difference you'll notice with this filter is that it's a good deal stiffer and heavier than a paper filter, and you have to run a bead of grease (provided) around the inside of the housing in order to get a proper seal. Bottom line, base your decision on the cost of replacing your paper filter multiple times vs. the one-time cost of the K&N, and consider it a bonus if you get a performance or mpg boost.

Customer Reviews

Its ok, somewhat disappointed3
Its ok, I just expected more from this.
I noticed my MPG went down about 1 mpg vs the stock model that came with the new car.
But That could mean that this one is better at filtering more than the stock model. I'm no expert in cars but that could be a possibility. I do know that there is usually a trade-off between filtering and airflow. If I had to do over, I would have gone with the less expensive stock model that kept the MPG were it was as I don't plan on keeping the car well into its prime where the benefits of better filtering would extend the engine life.
So if you want MPG, I would recommend something else. But if you plan on keeping the car 10+ years, I think this is a good air filter that could extend the life of the engine.

Good Deal4
Great item and price, but crappy packing. They used a nice large box, stood an air filter up in one corner, and then filled the rest of the box with packing materials. Part did arrive undamaged, but could have easily been destroyed.

K&N drop in filter4
I have really only been using the K&N for about 2-3K miles so far. I've noticed I can 'hear' the intake sucking air more with this air filter so I believe it when I read that it flows better. With higher air flow, I'll be curious to see how much the filtration decreases over a stock filter. My guess would be the filtration will suffer, but not horribly bad or in a dangerous way. Do not expect a huge HP increase with this filter, but I did get my best gas mileage after doing this filter, oil change, and spark plugs (37mpg HW).

In all I recommend this filter (so far) to anyone who plans on keeping their car for a while. With the cost of the filter and recharge kit, it is only saving you money if you plan on keeping your car for 90-120K miles after purchase of the filter.

replacement filter5
This was a replacement filter a for a K&N that had 100,000 miles on it. The new filter was almost the price of the kit to clean the old one.

Great reputation3
I installed the filter in a motorhome on a Ford F53 chassis Triton V-10.
I seem to have a little extra power but have not driven enough to really tell. Mileage seems to have increased a little.

ALWAYS A GOOD PRODUCT5
I HAVE USED K&N FILTERS ON QUITE A FEW DIFFERENT VEHICLES AND IT HAS SAVED ME MONEY OVER THE YEARS AND GIVEN ME GOOD PERFORMANCE.

K&N Performance Gold® Oil Filters K&N HP-1004 Oil Filter

K&N HP-1004 Oil Filter

Product Description

K&N Performance Gold® Oil Filters were originally developed for demanding auto race applications, our premium automotive oil filter is rapidly becoming a favorite among consumers for its durability and easy removal. We?ve changed oil filters and several of our product development technicians are sportsman class drag racers. They insisted we offer an oil filter that corrected the ?headaches? they experienced over the years changing oil filters. Heavy-Duty Construction for Extreme Conditions. To satisfy the demands of racers, our oil filter has many features over and above the requirements of most vehicles. We use thicker canister walls for extra strength and durability which reduces the risk of damage from loose rocks and debris. The heavy-duty construction will withstand higher oil pressures found only in racing environments without bursting. The drilled hole on the nut is for a safety wire attachment. Required for many types of racing, the safety wire prevents blown oil filters from falling on the track and representing a hazard to other race vehicles. This extra engineering offers peace of mind for consumers who want only the best.

Mario W.Diaz5
I am following my mechanics advice on this one,I already own the air filter for my Kia Optima that he recomended for me to istall in the car
and I did notice a diffence right away,as for the oil filter I do not know
because my car is not due for an oil change yet,but I am sure that it will
protect my engine better than the rest out there,if it is K&N it's good stuff!

k&n oil filter5
I've used k&n air filters for years - so why not try their oil filters? They work wonderully. I drive a 2000 Honda Prelude SH and the oil filter is located on the back of the engine in such a position that the oil in the filter drips all down the back of the engine block upon removal with normal filters - not with the k&n!! Only a few drops now drip down, what a difference.

GREAT FILTER5
I DRIVE A 2004 HYUNDAI XG350L AND USING THE FILTER GIVES ME A BETTER GAS MILEAGE.

Highly recommended5
I bought two of these filters for my 2000 Mazda MPV (6 cylinder) and 2002 Honda Accord VP (4 cylinder) (the filter here is for Honda). Let me state the most important result first: both cars improved the MPG. To be specific, the MPG improvement in the city is 17 to 20 and 20 to 22 in Mazda and Honda, respectively. I have used the air filters for over a month now and each car went through at least two tanks of fuel, actually Mazda spent four tanks due to a three-day trip. So, I can say that these are fairly accurate measurements. I must also state that I always keep my cars well maintained; my engines are tuned, oil changed, injector cleaned, etc. regularly. Additionally, I would still buy the filters without any MPG improvement, because the engines are running much smoother now. I especially feel the improvement at low RPM, definitely pressing the gas pedal less to accelerate and maintain the speed. Both engines are idling smoother at a slightly lower rpm. I heard critics for these filters about letting too much dust in the engine, and I was worried about this as well. But, as I said earlier, both engines are running smoother now; they are definitely not complaining. I think, as long as I do not neglect changing oil in regular intervals, there should be no problem. And, I have been doing that anyway. I highly recommend these filters if you are following the regular engine maintenance. I wish I had bought earlier.

Worth to buy!5
This filter does its job very well. I felt more horsepower instantly after replaced the filter even though I didn't have equipement to measure how many I have gained. It gives me more confidence to pass or enter freeway (I'm not encourage car racing, so drive safty is the most important). Another benifit is the engine runs smoother and quieter than before. It seems didn't give me significant improvement on gas saving, but compare with the car performence its means the gas was used more efficient. Besides, the filter is reuseable, you only pay 2-3 times more than the paper filter on the first purchase, but will save money afterward (needs cleaning and refilling work).

Honda replacement air filter3
I don't know how well the product performs, but the manufacturer's packaging contained nothing (other than a product number)to identify what vehicle the filter was designed to fit, or exactly how it was to be installed. A general information sheet accompanying the product stated that one of the first things to do is to verify that the product is the correct one for your car. TO do this required leaving the garage, going to the amazon site on my computer and looking up the number on the box by paging through 5 screens of filters before locating the correct one. It seems strange to me that when ordering a replacement part, such as this filter, you have to check every filter shown on the amazon site until you find one that fits your car. Normally, you would first identify your automobile make, model and year and then you would be told what filter fits your car. The Amazon process appears to be backwards and very time consuming. Cleaning instructions for this filter were also sketchy and confused. After all of this, I hope the product performs as advertised...especially since I had to make my best guess as to how it was to be installed.

Cold Air Intake

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

A short ram intake installed in a 2.0L 4-cylinder engine
A cold air intake is a system used to bring down the temperature of the air going into a car for the purpose of increasing the power of the internal-combustion engine. A secondary goal is to increase the appeal of a car by changing the appearance of a car's engine bay and creating an attractive intake noise. These aftermarket parts come in many different colors and many different sizes.

History

The aftermarket company K&N Engineering first offered air intake systems in the late 1980s. Those intakes consisted of rotationally-molded plastic intake tubes and a conical, cotton gauze air filter. In the late 1990s a proliferation of intake manufacturers such as AEM, Airaid, Injen, True Flow, and Volant entered the fray. In addition, oversea manufacturers imported their designs lending to the popularity of Japan domestic market (JDM) air intakes in sport compact markets. K&N and many of the other intake companies now offer intake systems in metal tube designs, allowing a greater degree of customization (the tubes can be powder-coated or painted to match a vehicle).

Mechanics

All cold air intakes operate on the principle of increasing the amount of oxygen available for combustion with fuel. Because cooler air has more density for a given volume, cold air intakes generally work by introducing cooler air from outside the hot engine bay. However, the term "cold air intake" is often used to describe other methods of increasing oxygen to an engine, which may even increase the temperature of the air coming into an engine.
Some strategies used in designing cold-air intakes are:
increasing the diameter of the air intake, allowing increased airflow.
smoothing the interior of the intake to reduce air resistance.
providing a more direct route to the air intake.
tuning the length of the intake to provide maximum airflow at certain engine speeds (RPM).
using a more efficient, less restricting air filter.

Disadvantages
Cold air intakes
hinder the evaporation of the fuel droplets
increase the risk of ice in the intake
and thus like all intakes need an electric heater for cold weather.

Application
Intake systems come in many different styles and can be constructed from plastic, metal, rubber (silicone) or composite materials (fiberglass, carbon fiber or kevlar). Due to the limited time air actually remains inside the intake tubing, the materials often do not impact a kit's ability to deliver cool air. The most efficient intake systems utilize an airbox which is sized to complement the engine and will extend the powerband of the engine. The intake snorkel (opening for the intake air to enter the system) must be large enough to ensure sufficient air is available to the engine under all conditions from idle to full throttle. If the intake opening has an unrestricted opening - no screens or other obstructions - the opening need not be larger than the inside diameter of the engine's throttle body, airhorn, or carburetor throat. Under some conditions intake system efficiency can be lost if the intake opening for the airbox is too large.
The most basic cold air intake replaces the stock airbox with a short metal or plastic tube leading to a conical air filter, called a Short ram air intake. The power gained by this method can vary depending on how restrictive the factory airbox is. The placement of the filter is usually directly in the engine compartment. The overall benefits depend on the specific application. Power may be lost at certain engine speeds, and gained at others. Because of the increased airflow and reduced covering, intake noise is usually increased. This effect is usually amplified on applications where a resonator, a part intended to reduce intake noise on some vehicles, is replaced by the intake.
Well designed intakes use heat shields to isolate the air filter from the rest of the engine compartment, providing cooler air from the front or side of the engine bay. Carbon fiber can be used for the piping instead of metal, reducing weight and insulating the air from the engine bay in some cases. Carbon fiber and other advanced composites (such as Kevlar) are expensive, and can be more aesthetic rather than functional.
Air bypass valves are gaining popularity in cold air intake manufacturing. An air bypass valve is a filtered spacer that is positioned more into the engine bay, between two connected pieces of the cold air intake assembly. This prevents hydro-locking by providing an alternate route for air to come in, thus eliminating the vacuum that causes water to be sucked in from a puddle. Foam filters are a simple piece of foam that is air permeable, and most have no valve. It is argued that this reduces power, but in actuality it provides more surface area for air to enter the engine when the driver presses the pedal. When driving at moderate speeds, the suction caused by the engine is not enough to activate the air bypass valve. Cloth filter bypass valves actually have a valve, air only enters if the valve is sucked open as result of the vacuum pressure caused by a blocked filter at the bottom of the intake. When it comes to cold air intakes this is the "best of both worlds"

K&N Engineering, Inc.

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Known for their racing performance K&N Engineering, Inc. is a manufacturer of automobile parts and racing accessories that is best known for its namesake air filter. It is headquartered in Riverside, California.

History
K&N Engineering was founded by Ken Johnson and Norm McDonald. K&N Engineering became knownfor its performance air filters for motorcycles and racing vehicles. K&N manufactures the majority of its products in-house. K&N's largest overseas market is in Germany and Australia, and it generates approximately 15% of its revenue overseas.

Products
K&N's air filter is an automotive air filter constructed of cotton gauze material sandwiched between aluminium wire mesh. It allows more air to flow in freely while dirt and particles stick to the oil. K&N assert this configuration is more efficient than paper filters, resulting in more oxygen gets into the engine, allowing vaporized fuel to burn more efficiently, thus increasing horse power and fuel economy.[ The filter is periodically washed and then coated with an oil, also supplied by K&N. The company states that owners can drive for 50,000 to 100,000 miles between cleaning and offers a million-mile warranty. K&N also asserts its air filters are more environmentally friendly than ordinary filters, since they never need to be replaced and thus do not end up in landfills or incinerators.
Other K&N product lines include fuel injection performance kits and cold air intake systems.
