We use thicker canister walls for extra strength and durability which reduces the risk of damage from loose rocks and debris. The heavy-duty construction will withstand higher oil pressures found only in racing environments without bursting. The drilled hole on the nut is for a safety wire attachment. Solid product from a solid company.
The filter installed with no problems, and was a solid fit. While I do not feel you receive huge gains from just the air filter, especially considering how well the stock filter flows, I do believe the K&N filter flows better. It is a great reusable, cleanable filter that will pay for itself overtime if you maintain it. As well as having great airflow. Can't beat the price either when considering any of the other after market drop in filters for the 335i. Some more technical reviews posted on e90post.com as well.

K&N Flame Arrestor
Excellent product, but be prepared to stop by your boat shop or Home Depot for stainless steel hardware to make it fit your boat - most factory carb hardware will not fit a taller unit.

Worth the money!
I have been looking to replace my boat's air filter/flame arrestor. The OEM replacement was around $60 and it does not appear to filter the air going into the intake. Amazon had the K&N marine version of their famous cleanable and low restriction air filter and Amazon found the best price for me. It also looks great on the engine and I gained 2 mph after replacing the ugly OEM.
